College Park Emergency Reroute

Adams Ave, Costa Mesa, CA

The Job

My phone rang at 9pm on a Tuesday. Emergency calls are always at 9pm. I've stopped being surprised. A tenant living in a College Park rental on Adams Ave had stepped on a really warm spot on her kitchen floor. When the house was quiet, she could hear a faint sound of running water under the tiles.

I stayed on the phone with her and walked her through finding and shutting off the main water valve to the house so the leaking would stop. I grabbed my gear and was pulling into her driveway 45 minutes later.

I ran my detection tools and found a pinhole leak on the hot water line. It was right at the elbow fitting near the water heater stub. Because of where it was located, we didn't have to break the concrete floor to fix it.

I wrote up a Written Estimate for the property owner and got the okay to start. Instead of opening the slab, I opened the wall behind the lower kitchen cabinets. I cut the leaking pipe below the slab level and rerouted a new section straight up through the wall to the water heater.

I finished up around midnight. I got the water turned back on and the kitchen fully functional so the tenant could make breakfast in the morning.
