Westside Concrete Slab Repair

Near Placentia Ave, Costa Mesa, CA

The Job

A homeowner in a 1958 house near Placentia Ave called me about visible moisture soaking up through the carpet in their hallway. They thought they had a hot water leak because the floor felt warm, but when I got there and ran my leak detection equipment, I found out it was actually a large cold water leak.

I pinpointed the leak under the slab, about 8 feet out from the water heater closet. A lot of times I try to reroute pipes through the walls or attic to save the floors. In this specific house, the length and configuration of the pipe run meant rerouting wasn't practical.

I gave the homeowner a Written Estimate so they knew exactly what we were dealing with. I was upfront with them: opening a concrete slab is dusty, loud work, and it takes a full day. Because we talked through it first, they knew what to expect and were prepared.

We taped off the area to control the dust and broke through the 6-inch concrete slab right where my equipment marked the leak. I cut out the compromised 4-foot section of the original 1958 copper pipe and soldered in a fresh copper replacement.

Once we pressure-tested the system and confirmed it was holding steady, we filled the hole and patched the concrete flush with the floor. It was a messy day, but we got their house back in working order.
